International money transfer

This B2B project aimed to simplify and improve the user experience for businesses making foreign currency transfers via a web and mobile.
The process was initially too long and confusing, with users struggling to understand which step they were on and whether their transfer had been successfully completed. Additionally, the fields at each stage of the process were dependent on each other, requiring careful alignment of the sequence from both a logical and business perspective.

The goal: Make a clear,  intuitive process that increased user confidence and reduced errors and build a status model for accountants and business owners, since each role has certain access to actions.

Framing the challenge

User Research: Conducted interviews with business clients and internal stakeholders to understand their struggles. The hypotheses were confirmed that people were confused when they saw many fields on one screen and some very important fields were unclear because they were written in complex accounting terms. Users found it difficult to navigate the single-page process, and the dependencies between fields made it even harder to ensure all steps were completed correctly.
Competitive Analysis: Studied leading B2B fintech platforms to identify best practices for breaking down processes into clear steps while considering dependencies between fields to maintain logical and business accuracy.

Design Decisions

Multi-Step Process: Broke the transfer process into 6 distinct steps. The fields within each step were structured logically based on their dependencies, ensuring that users could only proceed once the necessary information was provided.

Progress Indicators: Added a clear progress bar showing users which stage they were at, with guidance on how each step depended on the information filled in previously.

Real-Time Feedback: Introduced validation to ensure dependencies between fields were properly handled before moving to the next step. For example, users couldn't proceed without confirming the transfer amount, as it directly affected exchange rate calculations and fees.
